The Waiting is the Hard Part

What is it? You are waiting for something. A pay raise? A call back about a new job you interviewed with? News about a loved one’s health scare? A loved one to be delivered…like yesterday? Jesus to return? It is torturous, it almost seems impossible. We feel frustrated, angered, ready to take the reigns and solve things ourselves even though we are no doctor, lawyer, business owner or….*gasp* God. 

However when you are waiting it is nearly impossible to not feel “god-like” at some point, and get to where we are so impatient and frustrated we can “do this”! So we….quit our jobs, “believing by ‘faith’ that’s what God would have us do”. We call and frustrate the administrative assistant at the job we interviewed at five hours ago, to the point where she shreds our resume. We harangue the relative that needs delivered about “coming to church” until they totally disregard God…and us. We. Can’t Wait. Read the rest of this entry »

Approval Ratings

GISATG-LargeThat’s what we like to hear! We have been classically conditioned from childhood to seek approval from our parents, our teachers, our peers and our elders in general. Who hasn’t been to church as a child, sat quietly and been rewarded for it with those Starlight Mints, yum! Job well done child. As we grew older that same dependence on positive affirmation continued; we did well in school and Mom/Dad/Grandma/Uncle or Big Brother rewarded our “A’s” with dollar bills, we played sports and the teams were rewarded with a trophy or a snack after the game (win OR lose these days). We go to work and hard work is rewarded with bonuses, promotions, vacations or plaques. Society is filled to the brim with “Atta Boys”. And we expect it. Read the rest of this entry »
