In the Bible, in John 3:16-17, Jesus said
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him.”
Because of our human nature, we are all sinners. The word “sin” means that we ‘miss the mark.’ Sin is anything that we do that is contrary to the Word of God. Romans 3:23 states:
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
The price for our sins is death. God’s provision for our sins is life through our acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Romans 10:9-10 states:
“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved, for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
Now if you believe what Paul has just said in the Romans 10:9-10 and you are at the point in your life that you are ready to make a personal commitment to follow Christ, all you have to do is reach out to Him in prayer. If you are willing, pray this prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I ask You to come into my life and forgive me of all my sins. I confess my sins before You this day. I denounce Satan and all his works. I confess Jesus as the Lord of my life. Thank you for saving me. I believe with my heart and I confess with my mouth that you rose from the dead. I am saved. Write my name in the Lamb’s book of life. I pray this prayer to the Father in the name of Jesus, Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer and meant it with all your heart, Jesus has promised to give you a new life, both here on earth and in heaven. You are a Christian which means Christ-like.
Are you going to be perfect in your new life? No! You are still human. Being a Christian will not keep you from sinning, but being a Christian does mean that you want to be more like Jesus. To be like Jesus you must know who Jesus is. To find this out you must read your bible. Attend a Church that teaches the true Word of God and not the watered down version. Meet with other Christians that are mature and can help as you learn of Jesus. Ask questions and do not get offended when the answers are not what you expect or want to hear. Know that you are on a journey, a path that if followed according to the Word of God will navigate you towards your great reward in Christ.
