*Guest Post* Can I Get a Witness…!

09 Aug

From the early dawn of human history the eternal being known as ‘GOD’ has revealed Himself empirically by His ability to communicate; long before the establishment of various man-made religions God has accurately and consistently throughout time revealed His truth thru verbal and written testimony to humanity “God who in different times and in various ways spoke in time past to the forefathers and prophets” (Hebrews 1:1)

Now with the ability to communicate the attribute of intelligence is a requirement, only a Supreme Intelligent being such as God, who can and does speak to another intelligent being created in His image and likeness…Man. Communication by definition is someone revealing accurate facts about himself, his character, what he knows, revealing his thoughts to us as lesser created beings; seeking our attention and requiring us to respond to that truth. And the standard of that of communication must be based on Intelligence, Truth and Reason and the character of God himself; the very concept of truth originates with God who is Living Truth, who also possesses impeccable integrity as a character trait; as it is written “It is impossible for God to lie” (Hebrews 6:18)

God has also determined the principle on which to determine the validity of truth from His written record “BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES, LET THE MATTER BE ESTABLISHED!” (Deut. 19:15) this will be the determining factor in this article by which the truth of the matter will be established.

The opening testimony on the pages of human history is “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1) as controversial as this statement is, there is no ambiguity here, its direct and to the point, the controversy is simply a matter of whether you believe it or not…Moses did not attempt to prove the existence of God before the bar of mans reason, in fact in did just the opposite, he justified man’s existence from God! this verse does not attempt to “prove God exists” as profound as this declaration is, it simply starts with the logical assumption that Creation requires a CREATOR; just as a book assumes an author, a painting an artist, just as no one would conclude Mt. Rushmore sculpted itself.

The self-existent God has revealed Himself by general, special & personal revelation, without Gods self-disclosure of Himself, mans views of Him are empty, futile & foolish “because what may be known of God is made plain, for God has shown it to them….professing themselves to be wise they instead became foolish in their imagination and exchanged the reality of God for man-made copies of creation.” (Romans 1:19-23) by refusing to acknowledge God’s existence, men speculate their own existence arose from nothing. The equation being: Nobody x Nothing = Everything!

But the LORD said: “Who is this who darkens (my) counsel by words without knowledge?

Now, prepare yourself like a man (Man Up!) I will question you and you will answer me-!

The first being to cast doubt on what God declared was “that old serpent” who deceived our first parents and caused man to disbelieve his creator with the first recorded question ever from the mouth of Satan “Has God really said?” (Gen 3:1) brought not only death, but atheism into the world! Ever since that time “the god of this age has blinded the minds of them who don’t believe” (2Cor 4:4) Jesus called the devil the father of lies, who does not stand in the truth, because there is No truth in him, ” (John 8:44)

Jesus upheld the authority of the written word, its historicity, people, morals and doctrine as the very word of God “Sanctify them by your truth, your Word is truth” (John17:17) he frequently and publicly refuted the criticism of his enemies with scripture saying “What says the scriptures…It is written…Have you not read…?” Christ taught that being ignorant of the scriptures leads to incorrect knowledge about God and gross error (Matt 22:29) and the scriptures cannot be made ‘null & void’ (John 10:35) He professed the world would go out of existence before Gods eternal word by saying these things; He gave us confidence in the trustworthiness of the written testimony….the Bible.

The scriptures make the claim their origin came from the mind of God and not the product of mans invention “Knowing this first, that no prophecy is of any private origin, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but Holy men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2Pet 1:20-21). Christ always quoted whole or in part or made reference to virtually every book of the Old testament (these were the scriptures Jesus read).

When asked about what were the legal grounds for divorce, He answered “Have you not read that He who created them from the Beginning made them both, male & female therefore, a man shall leave his father & mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become on flesh?” (A direct quote from Genesis chapters 1 & 2, whom the critics say contradict each other!) This demonstrates that Jesus interpreted Genesis 1-11 as historical reality, not as allegory or myth including the flood “and as were the days of Noah…and the flood came and destroyed them all” (Luke 17:26-27) “remember Lots wife” (Luke 17:32) again Christ making a clear historical reference to Gen 19:26 (which the ‘intellectuals’ call a fairy tale).

Now, the hard nosed skeptic might say Jesus was only expressing the world-view from the culture of his day, but I ask, who would know better than Him? In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him and WITHOUT HIM NOTHING WAS MADE THAT WAS MADE” (John1:1)

But men who were not there say “there was no global flood” who make the claim that the “Geological Column” proves otherwise, calling it “Uniformity”. That means between the rock strata are “billions of years” problem is, the only two places you can find this ‘column’ is in the classroom and drawings in textbooks. If the geologic column could be seen, it would reach over a 100 miles high! But the scriptures say of such “For this they willfully forget: that the by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water….that the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water” (2Pet 3:5-6).

THE TESTIMONY OF THE APOSTLES: Can we trust the testimony of the Apostles? “For we did not make up cleverly invented stories, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were EYEWITNESSES of his majesty” (2Pet 1:16).

“That which was from the beginning, which we (apostles) have heard, which we seen with our own eyes and have looked upon, our hand have handled, concerning of Word of life…we have seen and bare WITNESS” (1John1:1-2)

“Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were EYEWITNESSES…..” (Luke 1:1-2).  Although Luke wasn’t an apostle, he could give firsthand testimony concerning the early history of Christianity, he accurately wrote events from the mouths of those who were there. Being a traveling companion and personal physician of Paul, he personally knew John-Mark the writer of the gospel that bears his name, and wrote in the first person in the latter parts of Acts as an historical eyewitness himself to the journeys and deeds of Paul.

Christ said to the disciples at the end of the last supper “And you shall also bear WITNESS because you have been with Me from the beginning” (John 15:27).

As stated earlier Jesus knew and taught “All scripture is inspired by God” (2Tim 3:16). Christ bore witness to the historical Abraham “…that he rejoiced to see my day” (John 8:56)  and Moses “…have you not read in the book of Moses at the burning bush?” (Mark 12:26) of David “…have you not read what David did?” (Mark 2:25)  and what they and the prophets said of Him was true “…when you see…what was spoken by Daniel the prophet” -Matt 24:15.

(The book Daniel is the most hated and criticized OT prophet, because of the incredible accuracy of his predictions; the critics of scripture make the accusation that it was written by “another Daniel” writing 200yrs after the lifetime of Daniel himself, because in their minds a God that controls and knows the future is in intolerable). Jesus reading from Isaiah said “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me and has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor….Today the scriptures are fulfilled in your ears!” (Luke 4:17-21).

Jesus said the scriptures also bare WITNESS to him, after his resurrection while walking on the road to Emmaus. “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, he explained the things concerning himself”. Imagine what that conversation was like (that’ll be for another article) “…all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses, the Prophets & the Psalms concerning me” (Luke 24:27 & 44). Here Christ affirms the validity of the entire OT canon!

Here’s another amazing statement Jesus made during a public rebuke of the scribes & Pharisees holding them responsible: “…from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah…” Matt 23:35  (in Jesus’ time the order of the Old testament scriptures read from Genesis to II Chronicles from the TANAKH the scriptures Christ read as a boy;  literally saying from the first martyr Abel in Genesis ’til the last Zechariah in II Chronicles). Quite literally from ‘A to Z’ again, testifying to the trustworthiness and preservation of the Old Testament.

Of all the testimonies ever given by men, none is more trustworthy an than the testimony of Jesus Christ himself “Who knew no sin, nor was any deceit found in his mouth” (2Pet. 2:22).                                                                                                                                                                                                               As one can see, God has left Himself a faithful witness to us who believe thru His written word, and anyone who would pervert, twist and add thereunto as Paul said, “Let him be Anathema!”
