Who’s The Boss?

01 Sep

The Church Corporation is Big Business. The Pastor is the Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer, sometimes there is a Board of Directors aka the Deacon Board which will do the hiring and/or firing of the Senior Pastor, there may be an Assistant Pastor according to the ego of the Senior Pastor, some churches have Evangelists as officers of the church. Just like a secular organization the church will have a secretary who you will need to circumvent in order to speak with the Pastor, there are mission heads, ministers of music, children and missions. Big business indeed! When I first decided to give my life to Christ, I had no idea what I was signing up for. I innocently believed that I would go to church, learn about the bible and Jesus, be taught how to walk uprightly and go home to share my knowledge with others. I didn’t know that the “right hand of fellowship”, or “joining the church roll” meant that I had signed on with a major corporation with all of the rights (very few) and responsibilities (tithes, offering, sacrificial offerings, pastoral offerings, anniversary offerings, etc) that came with it. This chart may not represent your church, but for many it is a close representation of the hierarchy that exists within the congregation, and in any hierarchy there is usually a jostling for positions. That’s how it was in our former ministry; you really weren’t “anyone” until you reached the 4th tier! At our ministry we did not have a deacon board/board of directors per se, but the Executive Board was spearheaded by the Pastor, and consisted of 10-12 of his trusted confidantes. This way no one could ever vote him out of “his” church, unlike other ministries who hired their pastors. You may be thinking right now…where are you going with this Sister Pastor’s Wife? If it’s not obvious to the naked eye while looking at this chart above then I will simply spell it out with scripture:

Colossians 2:18-19 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

1 Peter 2:5-8 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

Acts 4:8-12 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

We are more concerned with church government, or big business, that we forget that the Chief Executive Officer shed his own blood, sweat and tears to build up that conglomerate. At the top of the church hierarchy should be the name of Christ, and to be real the Pastor should be at the very bottom. Didn’t Jesus tell Peter to feed His flock? A shepherd is usually one of humble stature and a gentle nature, remember David? This church system, with modern day pastors, is hardly humble or gentle it is solely focused on one thing: money. That’s right, I said it!  Big business and big government appoint heads of committees for the sole purpose of fundraising, advertising and sponsorship; the church, likewise, will do the same but will sprinkle a little God on top of their 501c(3) status just for show. Many church systems now employ media teams who develop and send out press kits, they don’t have ministers of music, they have music departments which are broken down into choirs, praise teams, a mime ministry, and praise dancers or flag bearers. The more entertainment at the venue the more bodies they bring in, the more bodies brought in the more popular the pastor becomes – because he is the head, remember? And the more popular the pastor becomes the more money that pours in.

Jeremiah 7:1-7 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you men of Judah who enter these gates to worship the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. Do not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’ “For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice one with another, if you do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever.

Revelation 2:4-6 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

The church system has become an idol to many Christians. They believe that religious success is contained in how big their building is, how many members the church has, how decorative the pastor’s robe is, and the titles. In the zest and zeal of success we have fallen into strong delusion, which Paul spoke of to the church of Thessalonica. He also spoke of the ignorance towards God’s righteousness to the church at Rome:

Romans 10:1-4 Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

To recap, not only is Jesus Christ the head of the church, He is the end of the law. So, if you go into church hoping and praying that the pastor will appoint you as the next Deacon or head of the Usher Board or the soloist in the choir or director of the children’s church please understand that you have lost your first love, which should be Christ. David wrote in Psalms,

Psalms 75: 6-7 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

Reject the formal church system and tell the pastor that he’s been voted OUT as head of your spiritual life. Put Jesus Christ back where He belongs and worship only Him. Once you do that you will see your spirit receive the raise that you have been praying for. May your upcoming week(end) be blessed!

A Pastor’s Wife 🙂

This is what church has become (or becoming) not all, but:
Pastors (I can think of other comparisons) are CEOs, Jesus is the stock they invest in, the church is the broker (collecting tithes) God is Wall Street thats obligated to return a monthly dividend (the Hun’ed fold blessing) that never seems to come…DUH! This is the image of God they sell to the flock of the unquestioning sheeples; because the people want ‘Gods of Gold’ to lead them to the land of milk & honey, mercedes, mansions, millions and mistresses
did I leave anything out? “Pastor MadeOff” and the Worst lady, I mean First lady, are the only ones benefiting from the christian Ponsey scheme, I may sound like I’m joking, but I am very serious, I use humor to take the edge off, or else I’d be angry all the time at the sham some people make of “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints”
The last time I checked, JESUS was the head of the body, the Church! Colossians 1:18
