Once Saved…Always Saved

17 Jul

And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men, therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.” – Isaiah 29:13-14

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. – Matthew 15:8.

Maybe you remember your salvation experience aka the day that you surrendered your life to Jesus; was that a transformational experience for you, or just an “experience”? I can be honest and say that it took me a long time to “get saved” because I was attached, committed and addicted to the sin that I was in. You know how we do it, we will say, “keep on praying for me, God is not through with me yet”, or my personal favorite, “God knows my heart”. Wait, let me give you one more…the most popular one, I believe, “I am just not ready to take that step yet”. We have so many excuses as to why we will not devote our lives to Christ, but once we do, it should transform your life, your spirit, your behaviors and most of all your mind. I remember that when I got pregnant with my eldest daughter I was not saved yet, and my mother, who was, would hammer away at my boyfriend (at the time) and I about getting married. I heard more “it’s better to marry than to burns” than I ever wanted to hear, but because of the intense pressure from her and her church friends, I went ahead and married the guy. To make a long story short, the covenant between the two of us in marriage was not legitimate because it wasn’t what we wanted, and to be honest I don’t believe it was what God wanted. The marriage was doomed from the start because neither of us was honest in agreeing to it, and he was gone within 3 months.

There is a new doctrine, or maybe not so new but more open and common nowadays and it is the Once Saved, Always Saved doctrine. This is interpreted as even if you gave your life to Christ 20 years ago, and since that time became a serial killer, maybe repented once or twice, but you drink to numb the reality that you are killing people, then suddenly you die – you will still make it to heaven off of that 20yr ago confession unto salvation. If you believe this then you are an indoctrinated member of the OSAS Church of Lies.

How can once saved always saved be a lie? Well, there are MANY scriptures to dispute this erroneous doctrine which is straight from the devil. The one that pops immediately into my mind whenever someone brings this to me is 1 John 1:9,

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Why would Jesus need to forgive and cleanse us if our twenty year ago salvation was enough to keep us saved for life? Peter said it best…

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (1 Peter 1:13-16).

Ok so there you have it, God commands us to be Holy because He is Holy! But wait…there’s more! Paul stated to the church at Corinth,

But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (1 Cor. 9:27).

If we go back to the beginning of this post I talked about marriage being a covenant agreement between a man and a woman; salvation likewise is a covenant agreement between yourself and God, and as with any covenant or agreement there are terms to be met or expectations, if you will. God did His part, He gave his only begotten Son, and we gave our lives, our will, our very souls to him. However, it is my opinion that God gave the most, I mean he DID create us…so in exchange, God also set provisions and stipulations for us to follow. God is always faithful in meeting His end of the covenant; He promises to never leave nor forsake us, He doesn’t. He promises to supply our every need according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus, He does. He promises His peace that He will leave with us, done! We promise to commit our ways unto Him, and do we? We have this expectation that once we get saved that, hey…it’s all good now and we forget about the agreement! Once we disregard that covenant, it is broken!

When we rebel against God, he does not send wrath or judgment right away; God’s grace is sufficient for thee and he will send warning. Remember when we were little kids and you know that you should have been home by the time the street lights came on because, those were the rules in your house? Mama didn’t always beat your butt the first time, she might remind you about the rules. The second time, she may send your annoying little sister to warn you that it is almost time. The third time, you might get a swat on the butt and sent to bed…but ohhh the fourth time…you may not walk for a week! See, mama had mercy on you, and gave you chances but you still were rebellious, so finally judgment rained down upon you. That is how God is, loving, merciful and kind. He will always send warning before judgment – see Noah. There are many passages of scripture which show us that even Christians, saved folk, will turn away:

2 Peter 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again ; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

We are definitely in the times where there will be a great falling away of believers, just look at the state that the church is in now; deception is running rampant, false prophets are ravaging the sheep and believers are believing a lie!

2 Thess, 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

The greatest lie that satan would like for us to believe is that once you have been saved, that you can do anything, say anything or live any way that you want to and still be saved. Take heed lest you fall! The OSAS doctrine contradicts scripture and is very dangerous. Hebrews 10:26-29 states,

For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”

For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. – Isaiah 55:10-11 (KJV)

This is a powerful message Sis. I pray that everyone who sees this, will really evaluate who they are in Christ (myself included). I thank God that He has given you the wisdom and ability to use this forum to spread His true doctrine. May you allow God to continue to use you to minister to His people! Love it!

Thank you Bootney and Sis. Alison! In an age of contrary doctrines like the prosperity doctrine and the inclusion doctrine, this is one that is slyly slipping under the radar! Hopefully more people will view or share this, and those in darkness will come to light. There is no Once Saved Always Saved, but there is Jesus Christ, the same yesterday today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8.

Well, Sister, it looks like that “pastor” went thru with his sermon. He even linked a video to his blog. Let’s just say I am truly grieved. Talk around town, the church was packed—they came to see the “pastor” get tattooed while preaching his sermon. Truly we are in the last days.

Sister Evette, I had forgotten about that service so thank you for the reminder! What caught my eye was the quote that he put up:

Hello. we have been coming to grace church for a little bit and I have really enjoyed it. My son and his friends were interviewed today and honestly it was so funny. But his friends wouldn’t of been with us if I didn’t tell them about you getting tattooed today. They honestly didn’t believe me, so his friend just came to see if it was true and then he dedicated his life to Jesus. You are an amazing pastor. Thank you for being ready to go beyond to reach people….

This goes directly into the other blog post about Successful Ministry According to Satan; this preacher seems to be more into self-gratification and self-edification than to building up the kingdom for Jesus Christ. Jesus does not need gimmicks to draw, man does. See, when you trick and entertain them to get them in the door, you will have to keep tricking and entertaining to KEEP them. This is a shame and an abomination. Paul stated in Corinthians:

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
      Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. (1 Cor. 3:11-13).

I believe that the doctrine of OSAS is one of the most dangerous doctrines being taught today and I thank God for all that are teaching , preaching ,and living contrary to this erronous doctrine.

Brother Frank, I could not agree with you more. I actually had someone tell me that they believe with all their heart that they are going to heaven despite how their current lifestyle is because they accepted Jesus years ago. It broke my heart that they cannot hear God because of doctrine/teaching. “With all their heart…” which is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked according to the Word. We continue to pray. Thanks for your comment!
