I had a pretty good email reaction to the first part of the LMPTM blog posting so I wanted to go ahead with the second part, as I know that many will be able to relate to it.
Lie number 7:
“My wife is my equal partner. If she tell you to do something it is as if I said. You are not to question the authority of the First Lady!” Hello! Scripture please! Of course I believe that all Pastor’s wives are due their modicum of respect, but so does the average layperson in the church, the Deacons, the Ministers, the children, everyone. There is not a scripture in the bible that states that the First Lady (which is unscriptural in and of itself) has the same authority in the body of Christ as the Pastor does. Paul states in Acts:
For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. – Acts 20:29-21
Paul is telling the elders from the church at Ephesus about being accountable to each other, not to their wives! Considering that this Pastor vilified other ministries and forbid us to associate with them, we were basically stranded on a spiritual island with he and his First Lady as the authoritarians and he was accountable to NONE of his brethren.
Lie number 8:
“You don’t question how I’m being blessed of God. When you get to the level that I am at I won’t question how God is blessing you either.” Beware of this one saints of God! This is when you know that your Pastor is up to or into some shady business. Let me be frank, that ministry was started in a library room with my mother being one of its founding members. The “level” that this man started at should have kept him humble, but like many prosperity pimps, the more he got, the more he wanted. I remember being homeless at one point and my husband walking with our little boy (4 yrs old at the time) to get public assistance, and the pastor rolled up in his shiny Cadillac and asked him where he was going. When my husband explained what was going on and where he was headed, the pastor just nodded an okay and walked into the men’s shoe store! We were faithful tithe payers and givers in that ministry, yet he showed no concern for our condition? Why does the Pastor’s “level” matter and why do none of the member’s levels never increase while under his leadership? NOTE: a spiritual abuser will never promote you; you will always be beneath him/her.
For the record, I do not begrudge any pastor being abundantly blessed, as God’s servants they should be; however, I also believe that boasting of your blessing(s) is not in the plan of God, nor does God receive any honor in it. Also on record, if you are paying tithes to a ministry, you should be entitled to see or question the financial records of that ministry. If the Pastor or leader refuses to share that with you then you are in a spiritually abusive church and I urge you to flee.
Lie Number 9:
“God is going to pour out a double portion of his anointing on you for your sacrificial giving!” This is point blank. not mincing words, heretical teaching. You are either anointed or not anointed. There are no “levels” or degrees of anointing mentioned in the bible. In 1 Kings 19:16 it states, “And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room”. God was speaking to Elijah here instructing him to anoint, or consecrate/set aside these men of God to be rulers, or in Elisha’s case to succeed Elijah as prophet.
The double portion mentioned in 2 Kings 2:9 was Elisha asking Elijah for more of God’s spirit before he was taken to heaven, and that requires a whole lot more than what the Pastor was asking for in money; it requires self-sacrifice, faith, dedication to God, reliance on God alone, service to God, surviving the tests and trials, and waging warfare against those who oppose God. No minister can impart a “double portion” of anything; the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
Lie Number 10:
“Speak it into existence! Name it and claim it!” I cannot tell y’all how many times I tried this one and it NEVER worked! First of all, why is this lie super dangerous? Because it attempts to usurp the will of God. God’s word says in 1 John 5:14:
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
So if I ask God for a Mercedes and He wants me to have a Ford Taurus, and I “speak it into existence”, I am doing so according to my will not God’s. We have a habit of following the leader, and will do as he says. I recall getting pretty angry at God once because my name it and claim it didn’t work! I did not realize at the time that I had been taught to practice witchcraft but that is what it was. I did learn to name it and claim it genuinely, contrary to my former pastor’s teachings. I learned this: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom. 10:13)”. So, I claim victory over these lies in the name of Jesus!
I think I might be finished now. Please understand that I was under this ministry for close to 7 years and there were many, many lies and deceptions that I did not realize had been fed to me until God delivered me/us. John told us, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2), and Paul warns us in 1 Cor. 10:12, “Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” God is sending us warning that not everyone who cries “Lord, Lord” belongs to him and there are many wolves roaming the Earth seeking whom they may devour. Of course our God wants us to prosper, but it is according to HIS will. We must be satisfied that God’s will be done, and not our own because in this flesh lies no good thing.
Finally, put not your trust into man but God alone, read Matthew 6:33. Resist the church hierarchy because the head of the church is Jesus Christ and he is the only one that we are to bow to. The pastor is the shepherd, a shepherd keeps the sheep safe. The end. Thank you for reading and God bless you!
