Buddha? No. Mohammed? No. Hare Khrishna? No. Ra? Nope. Tutenkahmen? Uh uh. LeBron James? Huh? Barack Obama? What?!?!! Oprah Winfrey? GOD FORBID!
Yet I just turned on the television and this woman, who I have barely watched in the last 7 years is being honored for going off of the air after 25 years at the United Center in Chicago??? This stadium is packed to the gills with starry eyed women screaming their eyes out, and there were many celebrities in attendance to pay honor to her. According to my trusty friend Google.com the United Center`s seating capacity is approximately 20,500 people. Before I go on, I need to remind myself and everyone else about 2 Timothy 3;1-7,
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Now I understand that Oprah has impacted many lives through her charitable works and different shows, but come on people! There is no humility to this woman, she is loving the attention, the adoration and it is my opinion that she fashions herself as a god(dess) of sorts. Little Jackie Evancho (of America`s Got Talent fame) has had her voice likened to one of an angel, and she serenaded Oprah, wearing her ruby Cinderella slippers, then she gave the microphone to Josh Groban, another who is touted with having an angelic voice. He was followed by the incomparable Patti Labelle, whose most recent appearances have been at numerous gay pride events.
The hosts of this spectabulous event are Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Will and Jada Smith (hey it is called the Superstar Spectacular Event), Madonna, Beyonce (in a performance overflowing with idolatry), but it was at this point that I had to tune out because I became nauseous. Seriously nauseous at halfway through the show. Although the Smiths had not been shown at the point where I tuned out, I know that they are scheduled to appear because of commercial advertisements. So, what do all of these superstars have in common? Let`s see;
- Tom Hanks professes that he is in the Greek Orthodox religion. In his own words he states, “I must say that when I go to church — and I do go to church — I ponder the mystery,” he said. “I meditate on the, ‘why?’ of ‘Why people are as they are,’ and ‘Why bad things happen to good people,’ and ‘Why good things happen to bad people.’ … The mystery is what I think is, almost, the grand unifying theory of all mankind (Mattingly, 2009)”.
- Tom Cruise, Will and Jada, Madonna ALL practice Scientology. If you do not know, then a simple Google search is in order.
- Beyonce states that she is a Christian; however, some of her recent statements contradict her own words. She states that when she performs onstage that she has to channel another personality, an alter ego called Sasha Fierce. This other personality is vulgar and sexually explicit. Does our bible not say that by our fruits you would know us? Hmm…
(Clue to the celebrity glue above: alternate doctrines. None serve our Lord Jesus Christ)
I will stop here, but I want to make it clear where I am going. Luke 6:26 states, Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
Many, many individuals esteem Oprah Winfrey higher than God Himself. I don`t know that I have even seen Oprah give credit/glory/honor to Jesus Christ for giving her the talent to get where she is now. She often mentions `god`, but it is hard to discern just which `god` she is referring to. With Oprah giving platforms to people who pervert the Almighty God`s laws (aka Chastity/Chaz Bono), I can only assume that she and I are serving different Gods.
There are many celebrities that we vaunt up to god-like statuses, but the Oprah worship borders on the seriously deranged. I just want people to understand how dangerous it is to grant one person so much power.
Matthew 23:5-12But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
For those who are interested, the Oprah love festival continues tomorrow. For the rest of us, watch (not Oprah , the signs) and pray, for no man knows the hour that the Son of Man shall return!
